The Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) had their annual celebration of India's Independence Day on August 15, 2019, at TAMA’s office in Alpharetta. Even though it was a working day, more than 100 adults and kids participated in the patriotic event.
TAMA President Mr. Venky Gadde welcomed all, and Community Services Secretary Bharath Avirneni presented a bouquet to the chief guest, Retired Army Major General R. Siva Kumar, Ph.D., who then hoisted the Indian flag in front of the TAMA office. The Indian national anthem was sung by all and the flag saluted. Ladies sang a few patriotic songs.
Mr. Siva Kumar spoke about freedom fighters and how we achieved independence. He asked kids to visit their native villages and spend quality time there. He also explained how the military operates, and asked youngsters to work for the military, whether in U.S. or India. He encouraged everyone to use the great services of the TAMA Free Clinic and Telugu Manabadi.
Various TAMA officials spoke about TAMA’s programs and the importance of learning Telugu. Snacks, including candies for the kids, and tea were enjoyed, and selfies with Dr. Siva Kumar were all the rage!
