All-day sportsmanship at TAMA table tennis tournament
The Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) conducted a Table Tennis Tournament on September 14, 2019 at the Atlanta Recreation Club (ARC) in Cumming, GA. Sports have been regular events every year as TAMA continues its efforts to involve all ages and genders of the community in one way or the other. All TAMA events are open to public, and one need not be a TAMA member or speak Telugu.
Junior’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles Basic, Intermediate, Advanced along with Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles were organized. The newly introduced Mixed Doubles category attracted new participants this year, and the overall response was overwhelming with more than 100 participants.
Registrations began at 10 am with a welcome by TAMA Sports & Youth Secretary Rupendra Vemulapalli. Tournament director Archana Athalye from Archi's Table Tennis Club explained all the rules and displayed the draws. All the players showed true sportsmanship by umpiring within the players, and games continued until 6 pm. Donuts were served for breakfast, pizza for lunch, tea in the evening, and water bottles throughout the tournament.
Tournament sponsor Kris Gadde from Allied Informatics Inc., TAMA Leadership, ARC Management, and Archana Athalye presented trophies in junior’s and women’s singles categories. Telugu Association of North America (TANA) President-Elect Anjaiah Chowdary Lavu and TAMA President Venky Gadde felicitated Kris Gadde with a shawl and bouquet. TAMA was applauded for providing frequent competitive tournaments.
