The Atlanta chapter of HungerMitao, which was launched at the Atlanta Community Food Bank on October 2, 2019, has since been able to raise enough food and funds to provide one million meals to people in need. HungerMitao is a volunteer-driven grassroots movement focused on raising awareness about hunger in the U.S., improving community engagement, and channeling resources and contributions of the Indian American community to fight hunger through the Feeding America network of food banks.

As winter months approach, volunteers at Food4Lives (F4L) are working to provide sleeping bags for the homeless around Atlanta. Serving people experiencing food and housing insecurity in Atlanta, Food4Lives team has been serving fresh meals since the lockdown in March 2020.

The Gandhi Foundation USA (GFUSA) together with the Consulate General of India, Atlanta, celebrated 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2020. This day is also marked as ‘The United Nations International Day of Nonviolence.’Nations International Day of Nonviolence.’ The celebration, at the Gandhi Statue on the grounds of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park, was attended by dignitaries, Dr. Swati Kulkarni, Consul General of India in Atlanta, and Georgia state senators Angelika Kausche and Sheikh Rahman.

This play is a short satirical portrayal with a simple storyline. It revolves around the delicate fabric of a neighborhood where everybody came together to help a neighbor. A timely concept especially in these Covid times, the play emphasizes that simple things in life and helping each other out are at the heart of humanity.

On September 22, 2020, Heartfulness Institute hosted a virtual summit on ‘#Connecting for Peace’ to commemorate International Day of Peace in association with United Nations Information Centre, Global Citizens India, Give India, Spirit of Humanity Forum, the Fetzer Institute, Sewa International and Gandhi Foundation.

Unlike previous years, there was no public celebration to observe 74th Independence Day on August 15, 2020 at Consulate General of India (CGI), Atlanta. Due to the pandemic, only the Consulate members were present. Dr. Swati Kulkarni, Consular General of India in Atlanta, hoisted the Indian flag and wished all Indians everywhere a Happy Independence Day.

They See Blue Georgia and South Asians for Biden Georgia hosted a virtual townhall on September 10, 2020 for the community to voice their concerns and questions to three senior policy advisors to Vice President Biden. The advisors to attend the townhall were Dr. Anand Parekh, a member of the Biden Covid taskforce; Seema Sadanandan, a civil right advisor; and Georgia native Indi Dutta-Gupta, co-chair of Biden’s economic policy task force.

USA India Business Summit (UIBS) and Georgia Tech CIBER (GT CIBER) have been working together for over a decade to present remarkably interesting events and seminars in Georgia. On August 12, 2020, these two organizers presented a webinar titled, “India at 73: Its role in the emerging new World Order.” The webinar offered attendees a first-hand perspective about India, which was going to celebrate its 73rd Independence Day on August 15, 2020, and its role in the new emerging world order.

Georgia Indo American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) has been organizing Covid-19 Series Webinars to help businesses address key emerging issues during the pandemic. The virtual seminars address a wide range of topics from the business impact of Covid-19, to medical updates and workplace integration.
