Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) celebrated Diwali on November 21, with more than 250 people attending this online event. TAMA Cultural Secretary, Suresh Bandaru welcomed everyone and conveyed Diwali wishes. He also explained the significance of Diwali. TAMA President, Bharath Maddineni spoke about the objectives of TAMA and how the organization has adapted, planned, and executed its activities during Covid times.

Ambaji USA—Shri Shakti Mandir in Lake City, Georgia, celebrated Diwali throughout the four days of Dhanteras, Kali Chaudas, Diwali, and the New Year. Ambaji pujaris were available all day for consultation.Diwali celebrations at Sanatan Mandir began on Nov 12, 2020 with Dhanteras. Also known as Dhanvantari Trayodashi, it is a tradition at Sanatan Mandir to invite all the doctors in the community to perform puja for Lord Dhanvantari.

The Atlanta chapter of HungerMitao, which was launched at the Atlanta Community Food Bank on
October 2, 2019, has since been able to raise enough food and funds to provide one million meals to people in need.

As winter months approach, volunteers at Food- 4Lives (F4L) are working to provide sleeping bags for the homeless around Atlanta. Serving people experiencing food and housing insecurity in Atlanta, Food4Lives team has been serving fresh meals since the lockdown in March 2020.

BollyZ, an online Bollywood Dance fitness studio, celebrated digital Diwali on the theme of “Bring Back the Joy,” to tide over the gloom cast by the pandemic. The event was open to public as well as BollyZ members. The instructors met the attendees over Zoom.

Given the pandemic, organizers of UIBS and presenting partners, Georgia Tech Global Forum (GTGBF) decided to hold the 11th USA India Business Summit digitally as a scaled up version. Sixteen sessions were conducted internationally to deliver the full two-track, two-day program along six themes with forty-eight speakers and eight moderators.

Vibha, a non-profit and volunteer-driven organization working towards impacting the lives of underprivileged children, organized “The Paramount Software Solutions Dream Mile X 2020,” a virtual fundraiser raising more than $410,000. The organization has pledged to donate 10% of the proceeds from this event to support children’s educational and health needs across the USA via non-profit organizations such as Children’s HealthCare of Atlanta (CHOA), InspiredU in Atlanta, Schools on Wheels of Massahcusetts, and Communities in Schools of Chicago.

Pujari Atlanta, a nonprofit formed in 1986 to foster understanding between the people of Bengali origin and Americans, organized a virtual Durga Puja in the times of the pandemic. Enjoying the patronage of most Bengali families in metropolitan Atlanta, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Arkansas, the organization organized Durga Puja this year while trying to keep every volunteer and member safe.

Due to the pandemic, Durga Puja 2020 was conducted as a virtual event so that Bengali Association of Greater Atlanta (BAGA) members could enjoy the festivities from the comfort of their homes.BAGA members participated in Anjali and Aarti virtually. Food was available to be picked up by the members after the Puja. BAGA magazine, Pratichi, published a multimedia alternative with seperate versions for children and adults on the occasion.

Reflective of the pandemic times, the theme of Raksha’s third annual Art Show held in the last week of October 2020 was “The Art of Resilience.” Usually held in March to commemorate women’s empowerment month, Raksha organized the event virtually as a week-long art event.
