GOOD SPORTS: BADMINTON DUO KEEPS INDIA’S STREAK ALIVE

Treesa Jolly and her partner Gayatri Gopichand kept India’s streak alive by winning a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships 2026, held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. India has won at least one medal at every Badminton World Championship since 2011, a total of 15 medals in that span. PV Sindhu won five of those medals, including India’s only gold medal in 2019.

Before the streak, India had won only one medal at the Badminton World Championships, Prakash Padukone’s bronze in 1983.Ranked No. 39 in the world, Jolly and Gopichand put up a strong fight in the semi-finals against defending champions Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China, losing in three games. They became only the second Indian women’s doubles team to win bronze at the World Badminton Championships, joining 2011 medalists Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa.
