The International Gujarati Cultural Society of Atlanta (IGCSA) celebrated the musical legacy of renowned Gujarati composer Gaurang Vyas with a three-hour tribute concert, Saat Surona Sarname – Mukaam Post – Gaurang Vyas, on October 3, 2026, in Atlanta. The event drew more than 120 attendees and featured performances by local singers and musicians.
Active since 2022 and entering its fifth year in 2026, IGCSA promotes Gujarati language, music, and culture through community events. Its previous programs include the Gujarati Film Festival, The Lavari Show, Welcome Zindagi, and Bhajan Jamming. Vyas’s compositions encompassed more than 100 films, as well as numerous garbas and devotional songs.
Young Singers Take Center Stage
Among the highlights were performances by two singers under the age of 18, Garima Shah and Zeel Ranpara. Garima opened the program with “Tame Man Mukine Varasya,” demonstrating her familiarity with the composition despite not knowing the Gujarati script. Zeel’s rendition of “Dikari To Parki Thapan Kahevay” was another emotional moment of the evening.
In recognition of their performances, Dr. Vijay Patel of Tampa, Florida, presented each singer with $51, while Dineshbhai of the Shivkrupa Trust awarded each $501.
An Evening of Gujarati Music
Organized under the musical leadership of Ankur Joshi, the concert brought together Atlanta-based performers for a selection of Vyas’s compositions. Joshi performed “Saat Surona Sarname” and “Hu Amdavadno Rickshawalo,” the latter featuring yodeling.
Dr. Monal Shah sang “Hu To Gaiti Mele,” while Parul Sevak presented “Nahi Melu, Tara Faliyama.” Mita Mehta and Sonam Shah performed “Haju Rashbhar Raat To Baki Rahi Gai.” Sonam Shah, Falguniben, and Meghaviben also contributed vocal performances.
Sanjay Patel provided accompaniment on the tabla and dhol, while Nimish Sevak served as emcee. The concert concluded with the artists and audience joining in a rendition of “Hutu Tu Tu… Jami Ramatni…”
The program also featured video messages from Gujarat by poet Ankit Trivedi, Padma Shri Tushar Shukla, singer Prahar Vora, and Shrimati Vibhaben.
Community Collaboration
The idea for the tribute originated with Atlanta cultural organizer Mustafa Ajmeri. IGCSA President Jatin Shah, Chaula Zaveri Shah, and their team organized the event within 20 days, with conceptual guidance from Salil Mehta of Ahmedabad.
Rajivbhai Goswami of the Best Western Hotel supported the event by providing the banquet hall. Bhushan Mehta coordinated social media promotion, while Sagar Shah and Malay Desai of Parijaat Photography handled photography and videography. Umesh Shah and Snehal Shah managed registration.
At the conclusion of the program, attendees received commemorative coffee mugs featuring the IGCSA logo on one side and a portrait of Gaurang Vyas on the other. Photographs of the souvenirs shared on social media also drew interest from music enthusiasts in Gujarat.
