WRITE FOR KHABAR MAGAZINE

Khabar is an Atlanta-based monthly variety magazine serving Indian Americans. We welcome original, high-quality writing that reflects the diversity, depth, and evolving experiences of the Indian diaspora.

A byline in Khabar reaches a readership of over 90,000 Indian Americans and places writers alongside nationally and internationally recognized contributors.

WHAT WE PUBLISH

We accept features, essays, interviews, commentary, analysis, short fiction, humor, and reported pieces aligned with the following areas:

  • Indian-American / Diaspora Experience
    Culture, identity, arts, entertainment, politics, trends, business, and community life across generations.
  • India Articles exploring Indian society, culture, politics, arts, or trends with broad relevance (not narrowly regional).
  • Metro Atlanta Community
    Local events, profiles, interviews, and stories of impact within the Indian-American community.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Unsolicited submissions welcome
  • Writers may submit as often as they like
  • We respond only if interested; if you don’t hear back within 1–2 weeks, feel free to submit elsewhere (sooner for time-sensitive pieces)
  • Word Count: Approximately 600 words to 2800 words. Commissioned cover stories can be as long as 3500 words.
  • Simultaneous Submissions: Please disclose if your article has been submitted elsewhere.
  • Reprints: Previously published work is considered only if: (1) You own full copyright. (2) It has not appeared in publications with significant readership overlap in the eastern U.S.

COMPENSATION

  • Pro bono submissions welcomed from students, emerging writers, academicians, and subject-matter experts
  • Professional writers: honoraria typically start at $50, with cover stories paying up to $300–$500, depending on scope and experience. (Rates vary for contributors based outside the United States.)
