Zakir Hussain & Masters of Percussion
Zakir Hussain & Masters of Percussion
an afternoon with the Tital of Tabla
Zakir Hussain’s accomplishments read like mythology: widely considered one of the greatest musicians of our time, he is credited as the chief architect of the world music movement. He has been awarded the National Endowment for the Arts's National Heritage Fellowship, the highest award given to traditional artists. His myriad collaborations include the likes of George Harrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead, Edgar Meyer, Béla Fleck, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, and Billy Cobham. Just ask anyone who has seen him at the Rialto – to experience Zakir Hussain in person is a privilege without equal.
“Legends drum among us. Some are the fastest, some the newest. Some the strongest, some the smartest. Some are the most creative, some the hardest working. Some are the most talented, some the most courageous. Some are the most complex, some the simplest. There is one who drums among us who is all of these, and more. He sits not high atop a shining throne, but cross-legged on the humble floor.” – DRUM! Magazine
