In This Moment with Dr. Gautham Reddy
Friday, September 18 | 12:30 PM | Zoom
Works of art have the power to prompt, provoke, and illuminate. In a new series of lunchtime programs titled In This Moment, Emory faculty and Carlos curators discuss works of art in the museum that reflect the complex social issues of their own time and place but also provide a framework for considering our current moment.
In this program for Emory students, Dr. Gautham Reddy, South Asian Studies Librarian at Woodruff Library, looks at colorism in South Asia, borne out of colonialism and caste and manifest in a variety of contexts, from recent controversies over Fair and Lovely skin cream to the images of Raja Ravi Varma in the exhibition Transcendent Deities of India: The Everyday Occurrence of the Divine.
