Letters from Readers
Thank you, Khabar!
Being a young family raising toddlers in an alien country, Khabar makes us so nostalgic and connected at the same time. I always look forward to the stories and articles as well as the mouthwatering pictures of Indian cuisine. Thanks, Khabar! I look forward to reading more.

Let’s not forget Russia’s support for India
In his letter to your magazine (“Readers Write: India should stand up against Russian aggression,” April issue), the correspondent wrote that he is ashamed as an Indian because India abstained from voting in the U.N. resolution on the Russian aggression. Further, he states that as the largest democracy India showed cowardice instead of courage.
The friendship between India and Russia is over 50 years old. When nobody would supply defense equipment to India without payment in hard currency from cash-strapped India, Russia—then U.S.S.R.— provided it to India on payment in rupees and/or on barter. When many frivolous issues were brought to the U.N. forum by Pakistan, U.S.S.R. stood by India and used its veto power six times. During India’s war with Pakistan in 1971, both the U.S. and the U.K. sent their navy to the Indian Ocean to pressurize India. At the time, U.S.S.R. sent its naval ships and submarines to keep the U.S. and the U.K. navy at bay.
These are the facts that cannot be overlooked.

Moving insight into human condition
I was struck by Parthiv Parekh’s moving insight into our extremely conflicted human condition today (“Editorial: Life Lessons Come Full Circle,” April issue) as he spoke from his own experience of Indian heritage and experience of the West over the last 35 years in the U.S.
But it is true for all Americans. And dangerous for all mankind.
A few insights that he leaves us with: “America has idealized machismo, while the East has valued soft traits of the heart.” This is no easy marriage when the West lauds the scientific progress of the mind, even to the point of nuclear destruction. This alone devalues our very beating hearts. Our lives.
As a writer and poet, I was moved by his final image of discovering our other human powers in “the diamond in the pocket of your heart.”

Valuable article on using our left hand
For the past 16 years, I have been an avid reader of Khabar magazine, which has served to connect all Indian immigrants. I learned a lot from the article written by Dr. Bhagirath Majmudar in the February issue (“Musings: My Left Hand”). Often, we do not understand the importance of things that we don’t use frequently. As the article rightly points out, a right-handed person may not realize the value of his left hand unless the right hand is rendered useless. The author started using his left hand and slowly his left hand started performing just like his right one. Indeed, we should try to use alternatives and think of new ideas. Congratulations to Dr. Majmudar for this fine article and to Khabar for publishing it.
