Good Sports: India's Luge Champion
Here’s a toast to Shiva Keshavan, a two-time Asian champion who has represented India at five Winter Olympics, the first in 1998 when he was only 16.
Now 32, he finished 37th in the luge at the Sochi Olympics, a dozen spots below his best Olympic finish in 2006, but that hardly captures his impact on the sport. Not only has he been a pioneer for winter sports in India, he has performed at a high level without having the resources many of his competitors enjoy.
It might be decades before India wins a medal at the Winter Olympics, but Keshavan has certainly cut a path down the slopes for others.
