Good Sports: Teens Develop Text-Locking App
When a friend of theirs was involved in a car accident while reading a text on his cellphone, Shreya Shah and Aditi Gopalan decided to do something about the growing problem of texting and driving. The high school juniors from Fremont, California, developed an app called Text-Lock that prevents people from texting or using applications such as Facebook and Instagram when they’re in a driver’s seat (a sensor in the seat activates the app).
The teens hope to get a patent for TextLock and eventually sell it for about $25, perhaps saving many lives.
“Lots of kids just give up and say ‘only adults can do that,’ but age is just a number,” Shah told India-West.
