Good Sports: SUPER SERIES TITLE FOR SINDHU
Proving that her silver medal at the Rio Olympics was no fluke, badminton star P. V. Sindhu recently won her maiden Super Series Premier title, beating China’s Sun Yu in the final of the China Open. She became only the third non-Chinese woman to win the China Open, joining her compatriot Saina Nehwal (2014) and Malaysia’s Wong Mew Chew (2007).
Sindhu followed up her triumph by reaching the final of another Super Series tournament, the Hong Kong Open. The stellar performances propelled her from No. 11 to No. 7 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) women’s singles rankings. They also earned her a spot in the year-ending Super Series Final in Dubai, along with other Top 8 players in the world.
