Good Sports: SERVING OFF THE COURT
Former professional tennis player Shikha Uberoi, once India’s top female singles player, is co-founder of the Indian wing of Indi.com, a video social network where artists, retailers, nonprofits, and others can connect with fans and supporters. Uberoi hopes to use the site to bring about social change in India.
“We are inherently social. We are finding talent and promoting individuality,” she told India West. “I’m so proud to bring that ethos to India.”
A former board member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Initiative for Bhopal, the 32-year-old Princeton University graduate serves as a trustee and adviser to nongovernment organizations and social enterprises.
“In tennis, I had a good serve. But now, I serve people,” she said. “I have never been more passionate about my life than I am today.”
