Good Sports: KABADDI CHAMPS AGAIN
December 2016
It wasn’t a big surprise that the Indian men’s kabaddi team recently won the World Cup (standard style) again. What was surprising was that the other teams offered a little resistance. In fact, India lost its first match 32-34 to South Korea. In the final against three-time runner-up Iran, India was down 13-18 at halftime before prevailing 38-29, thanks largely to the superior raiding skills of Ajay Thakur.
India has now won all three World Cups in standard style kabaddi (2004, 2007, and 2016) and all five in circle style (2010 to 2014).
