Good Sports: ISL OUTDRAWS MLS
December 2014
Cricket rules India, but soccer may be gaining a foothold. The new Indian Super League, in the midst of its inaugural season, has been attracting an average crowd of about 22,000, beating soccer leagues across Asia and even outdrawing America’s Major League Soccer (MLS) by a few thousand spectators.
At its midway point last month, the 10-week, eight-team ISL ranked as the fifth highest soccer league in average attendance around the world, according to a PTI report.
The ISL also surpassed all sports but cricket in attracting 275 million TV viewers over its first three weeks.
