Good Sports: D.C.-BOUND FOR SOCCER
Two Indian-American teens have signed letters of intent to play for the women’s soccer team at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Uma Bhatt (in photo, left), a defender and midfielder from Syosset, New York, helped Syosset High School become conference champions in 2014 and 2015. She also played for the ECNL’s East Meadow Soccer Club.
Tuhina Dasgupta, a forward from San Jose, California, scored 36 goals and had 40 assists for Lynbrook High School. She was selected as her league’s offensive MVP in her junior year. She also played at the club level at Central Valley Crossfire and for the Elite Club National League’s De Anza Force.
GW head coach Sarah Barnes described Bhatt as a “diverse player who can adapt to different positions and demands” and Dasgupta as a “dedicated player who works hard to reach her goals.”
