Nanda is no more
Bollywood bade a tearful farewell to veteran actress and the quintessential star of the 60s, Nanda who breathed her last on March 25, following a massive heart attack at her residence. She was 75. The actress, best remembered for her performances in Jab Jab Phool Khile, Hum Dono, and Gumnaam, excelled equally in playing a coy Indian beauty as well as roles with modern sensibilities, pairing up onscreen mostly with Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, and Shashi Kapoor. Nanda became a recluse in the later years of her life stepping out of her home only on rare occasions, with friends Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh, and Sadhana, all divas of the golden era. “We were soul sisters,” said a misty-eyed Waheeda at the funeral.
