Nationwide Association of Immigrant Attorneys of Indian Origin
New Orleans: Dilip Patel, a Clearwater, Florida attorney who specializes in immigration law has been elected President of the Association of American Lawyers from the Indian Sub-Continent (AALISC) at its annual luncheon in New Orleans held in conjunction with the Annual Convention of American Immigration Lawyers' Association (AILA).
The other office bearers of AALISC for 2003-2004 are Gary S. Pasricha (Vice President), Minal Shah Fenton (Treasurer), and Morley J. Nair (Secretary).
Formed in 1993, AALISC is comprised of U.S.-based practicing immigration attorneys from the Indian Subcontinent who are also members of AILA. Now numbering about 300, the group has been working to increase the awareness of immigration laws among the members of the South Asian community living in the United States. The founding President of AALISC is Michael Phulwani of Maywood, NJ and the immediate past President is Ramesh Gurnani of Edison, NJ.
"We will continue to work towards achieving our goals by encouraging our members to address immigration issues at community gatherings," the newly elected President Dilip Patel said.
